Long named as Arkansas Teacher of the Year regional finalist The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education announced July 15 that Springdale Public Schools' Stephanie Long has been named as a 2023 Arkansas Teacher of the Year regional finalist. “It is my privilege to announce the Arkansas Teacher of the Year Regional Finalists,” said Johnny Key, ADE Secretary. “These educators represent the best in the teaching profession at their local schools and have demonstrated a commitment to the teaching profession. Congratulations on achieving this honor and recognition!” Long has served her whole teaching career with the district and has taught at Turnbow Elementary her entire 13 years with Springdale Schools. She is also a 2022 state finalist for science for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Regional Teacher of the Year finalists will be recognized Aug. 4 at the Governor's Mansion. Four state semi-finalists for Teacher of the Year will be selected from the 13 regional finalists and will be announced at the event. One of the four state semi-finalists will be named the 2023 Arkansas Teacher of the Year this fall and will go on to compete for the 2023 National Teacher of the Year recognition. terra Lowe has been named an instructional specialist administrator for Springdale Public Schools. "I would like to thank Dr. Cleveland, Dr. Smith, Mrs. Tisher and Mrs. Fink for giving me the opportunity to work in this role," Lowe said. "I'm excited to work alongside the C&I team and to continue to grow our staff and students in the district." Lowe will transition from her role as assistant principal of Har-Ber High School to the Title II-funded curriculum and instruction position. She'll work alongside district instructional specialist administrator Cissy Lindley. "These roles are designed to significantly improve student achievement in a targeted manner," said Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale Public Schools superintendent. "Ms. Lowe is uniquely skilled in this area and is looking forward to deeply supporting administrators and teachers in this much-needed mission." Lowe is a native of West Memphis and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Level Education from the University of Arkansas, she said. Lowe taught English language arts for middle schoolers in Bentonville and Rogers earlier in her career. She's worked for Springdale Schools for five years and served the district as an instructional facilitator at Helen Tyson Middle School prior to working as the Har-Ber High School assistant principal the last three years.

Curtis Gladden has been named as the principal at Southwest Junior High. "I would like to thank Dr. Cleveland and the district team for this tremendous opportunity. I am very honored to be chosen to lead Southwest Junior High School. Springdale School District has been my home for 20 years of my career and I am excited for this new adventure." Gladden is replacing Cissy Lindley, who took a position as Lead Admin Instructional Specialist for the Springdale School District. Gladden will begin his new role July 1. Gladden is an Arkansas native and received his undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Arkansas. He then went on to complete his specialist at Arkansas State University and Doctorate from Arkansas Tech. He started his career as a science teacher and coach and has spent the last 11 years in leadership roles at Mountain Home High school, Central Junior High, Springdale High and most recently as assistant principal at Har-Ber High school. Curtis is married and has two children who attend Springdale Schools. Dr. Jared Cleveland, district superintendent, said that Dr. Gladden is a seasoned administrator that is well positioned to continue the great tradition of excellence at Southwest "He understands the standard of excellence expected in our district due to having served in multiple schools as a teacher and administrator," said Dr. Jared Cleveland, district superintendent. "Dr. Gladden and the Southwest administration/faculty are poised for continued student academic growth while transitioning to the new facility over the next two academic years."

Rodney Ellis has been named as the Workforce Training Director for the Springdale Public Schools. "I am truly honored to be part of the Springdale District leadership team, working towards implementing a vision to merge academics and workforce training skills necessary to enhance and support all CTE career pathways for student success in local and regional business and industry roles across Springdale and Northwest Arkansas." Ellis began his new role on July 1st saying "this role will allow me to work within the Springdale District developing, enhancing, and strengthening career readiness and industry related skills training needed for student success in business and industry roles." Ellis was raised in eastern Arkansas on a cotton, rice, and soybean farm. His parents worked both on and off the farm to provide necessary income, demonstrating strong work ethic and values which he strives to incorporate into his life. Ellis worked in aviation and other technical fields for 20 years before getting into education. "I was blessed to be part of the planning and implementation of one of the first high school industrial maintenance programs in Arkansas at Siloam Springs." said Ellis.

Spartans' have new assistant principal Springdale Public Schools has named Aaron Tinnin as the new assistant principal for Sonora Middle School. Tinnin said he feels excited and honored for the opportunity. "I want to thank Principal Jennings, Dr. Cleveland and the Springdale Public School Board for this opportunity to serve the students and staff at Sonora Middle School," he said, Tinnin has served as an educator for a decade, all of which has been with Springdale Schools. He previously taught 11th-grade English at Archer Learning Center and sixth-grade English language arts at Don Tyson School of Innovation. Tinnin transitioned to Sonora Middle School after serving for three years as an instructional specialist at Perry Professional Development Center.

Ashley Marcum has been named as one of Har-Ber High School's incoming assistant principals. “I want to thank Dr. Jared Cleveland, the district leadership team and the School Board for this amazing opportunity. I also want to thank Dr. Paul Griep and the administration team at Har-Ber High School,” Marcum said. “I am humbled, honored and very grateful to accept this new role and responsibility supporting teachers, students and families in the Springdale School District. I cannot wait to continue my work at Har-Ber High School as an assistant principal.” Marcum has worked as the Instructional Facilitator at Har-Ber High School for the last three years. She previously worked as an English teacher at Springdale’s Central Junior High School and at Oakdale Middle School in Rogers. “She has a remarkable life story that began with little interest in school," Cleveland said. "She understands why students disconnect from traditional education and is devoted to creating an environment where students want to be connected to their learning.” Marcum holds an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Arkansas State University, a bachelor's in early childhood education from John Brown University and a master’s in teacher leadership and gifted education from the University of Central Arkansas.

Brett Unger has been named as one of Har-Ber High School's incoming assistant principals. “I would like to thank Dr. Cleveland, the district leadership team and the School Board for giving me this opportunity to be assistant principal at Har-Ber High School,” Unger said. “I look forward to working with Dr. Griep and his team as we serve the school community and pursue excellence together.” Unger has served with Springdale Schools since 2005 and has worked at Hellstern Middle School, Har-Ber High School, Lakeside Junior High School and Archer Learning Center. He most recently served for three years as the Sonora Middle School assistant principal. Unger has held positions that include teacher, response to intervention coordinator, alternative learning environment director, coach and instructional facilitator. Unger has a bachelor's in exercise and sports science from Abilene Christina University in Texas and a master's in educational leadership from Arkansas Tech University.

Har-Ber High School hosted its first annual Pre-Vet Camp for 20 junior high students with 9 current Har-Ber students teaching various veterinary related skills to the participants. A special thank you to Dr. Niki Lunsford and Dr. Michael Lunsford at Lunsford Veterinary Care Center, Madison at Southwest Animal Hospital, and Dr. Valerie Henley at Fayetteville Animal Shelter for giving the participants tours of their facilities.
