Lori Rooney, Har-Ber High School family and consumer science teacher, was awarded the Arkansas Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Adviser Mentor Award on March 29 at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference.
The FCCLA recognized Rooney for having achieved the level of Master Adviser by devoting two years to new adviser assistance, assuming adult leadership roles in FCCLA, attending training sessions and using national and state FCCLA resources.
She is commended for her dedication and leadership in FCCLA!
There are more than 6,000 chapter advisers nationwide. Rooney is one of 89 advisers who the FCCLA will honor at the Recognition Session of the 2022 National Leadership Conference in San Diego.
The award will be formally announced July 2 at the national conference.

Congratulations to the Don Tyson School of Innovation representatives for the Arkansas Governor’s School, a four-week gifted and talented summer residential program for upcoming high school seniors. The program is provided by the Gifted and Talented programs through the Arkansas Department of Education. Springdale High School students won six medals at the Arkansas HOSA State Leadership Conference March 6-8 in Hot Springs.
Nineteen Springdale High students participated in the event, according to Robin Pinkley, SHS career and technical education teacher.
"We are proud of everyone," Pinkley said. "This was a completely new group of students going to Hot Springs. It was a new adventure that went really well for them."
Medal recipients include:
Mary Haskins (Senior): Third Place in Veterinary Science
Guadalupe Najera (Sophomore ): Third Place in Persuasive Writing and Speech
Arzetta Fowler (Senior): Second Place in Persuasive Writing and Speech
Cortney Lawrence and Janiyah Jones (Sophomores): First Place in Public Health Education with a focus on Mental Health
Maricarmen Medrano (Junior): First Place in Medical Photography


The Springdale High School Future Farmers of America program has three state FFA degree recipients this year.
Be sure to congratulate Peterson Betwel, Makayla Hutter and James David on their achievement!
The degree requires three years of FFA involvement, 300 hours investment in a Supervised Agricultural Experience program outside the classroom, a six-minute speech about their SAE to the FFA chapter, proficiency in parliamentary procedure and more than 25 hours of community service.
Springdale High was the only Springdale school with students who achieved this advanced degree this school year.

The Don Tyson School of Innovation Pre Educator program had eight students pass the ParaPro Exam.

The Parapro Exam is a credential required by The Every Student Succeeds Act, which requires paraprofessionals serving in an instructional capacity satisfy one of the following:
• An associate of arts degree OR
• Two years of college OR
• Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and math through a state or local academic assessment.
This is DTSOI's first year to offer the Pre Educator program of study. Springdale High School and Har-Ber High School students will also take the Paraprofessional Exam this month. #THEChoice

Har-Ber High School students exceled at the Future Farmers of America State competition at the University of Arkansas.
The Har-Ber Vet Team consisting of Ellie Benson, Izzy Sedrick, Megan Sanders and Lexi Robbins, won first place!
The Har-Ber Poultry Team of Race Tillery, Christina Sauve, Presley Shelton and Jon David Cousins won first place in their category as well!
Race Tillery also won $4,000, Christina Sauve won $2,000 and Presley Shelton and Jon David Cousins each won $1,000 as individual awards in their respective categories.
"This is the first year for the UofA to do this, and I am so glad we get to experience this wonderful opportunity," said Patti Priest, Har-Ber High School agricultural Science instructor.

The Springdale School District - Department of Student Services intends to apply for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Grant through the
Arkansas Department of Education - Homeless Education. The grant funds will be used to coordinate our Families in Transition Program.

Students from Springdale High School and DTSOI attended the Inaugural NWA Build My Future Event at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale.
The event sponsors included Nabholz, Crossland, Multi-Craft, ABC Arkansas, Office of Skills Development, Kimbel Mechanical, Flintco, Baldwin & Shell, AR Apprenticeship, Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. Clark Contractors, and more.
Students worked in teams to build a bench with Nabholtz (picture), bend metal, and work on plumbing and electrical projects on site. Industry representatives shared internship and work opportunities with students and teachers.
The trades provide many job opportunities for students at age 18 years of age in the industry represented at the BYF event today. Benefits include paid training, scholarships for advanced learning opportunities, medical benefits, and hourly wages ranging from $15 - 18.
Springdale students have the opportunity to gain certifications in OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NCCER Core, and NCCER Construction free of charge at any high school through the trades classes. If a student obtains these certifications while in high school then the industry will increase an employee's starting wage.
