Springdale Schools has selected Dr. Michael "Shane" Hampton as the new assistant principal of Helen Tyson Middle School.
"I feel honored and genuinely excited to step into the role of assistant principal," Hampton said. "It’s an opportunity to expand my impact beyond the classroom and facilitator position to support both students and teachers on a broader level.”
Hampton joins the Helen Tyson leadership team after serving as the instructional facilitator at Bayyari Elementary School for three years. His transition to Helen Tyson marks a return to the school, where he previously served in special education.
“We are so excited to welcome Dr. Hampton back to our HTMS family,” said Principal Patrick Scott. “His steadiness and servant leadership approach will make an immediate positive impact with our students, families and staff.”

His 19 years of education experience across both elementary and secondary levels makes him a perfect fit for this pivotal leadership role.
“I’m especially looking forward to collaborating with staff, building strong relationships with families and helping create a positive, supportive school culture and climate where everyone can succeed," Hampton said.
The educator holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas, where he also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching, a Master of Education in Special Education and a graduate certificate in building level administration. He completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.
Springdale Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland said Hampton’s background in special education and instructional leadership makes him an excellent candidate for assistant principal at Helen Tyson.
“His experience supporting diverse learners and coaching teachers reflects a strong commitment to high-quality instruction and student success,” Cleveland said. “Dr. Hampton’s collaborative leadership style and focus on building positive relationships will be a strong asset to the students, staff and families of Helen Tyson Middle School.”
Hampton said he’s eager to broaden his impact on the school community, noting the profound significance of the transition to administration.

"I want to support teachers by being present, approachable, and responsive—someone they can rely on for both instructional guidance and day-to-day problem solving," he said. "Middle school is such a pivotal time, so I’m committed to supporting not just academic growth, but also students’ social and emotional development."
Hampton said he intends to lead with a focus on empathy, data-driven decision making, and consistent support for the instructional staff.
Beyond the halls of Helen Tyson, Hampton is a devoted family man who has been married to his wife, Katie, for 19 years. They are the parents of two daughters, Elisabeth and Emma.
