There is a registered nurse in every building that tends to the medical needs of the students and staff at their respective schools. Services provided by the Nursing Department include: vision and hearing screens for all pre-k, kindergarten, first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth graders as well as all transfer students into the district; Scoliosis screenings for sixth grade girls and eighth grade boys and girls; and BMI screenings for kindergarten, second, fourth, sixth, eighth and 10th grade students.

In addition, the department works with special programs including the Wellness Centers at Jones, Elmdale, and George Elementary Schools, flu clinics with the assistance of the Washington County Health Department, and the Ronald McDonald House Dental Van.

The department oversees social services and assists families with a portion of expenses for school supplies, clothing, shoes, hygiene supplies, dental visits, medical care, physician appointments and medication, eye exams and glasses. The department also has a food pantry.
