Brett Unger

Brett Unger, who has been a teacher, coach and instructional facilitator in the Springdale School District during the last 11 years, has been named assistant principal at Sonora Middle School. He replaces Jonathan Buchanan who was named assistant principal at Southwest Junior High.

“I am excited to serve the students, staff and parents of Sonora Middle School,” Unger said. “I would like to personally thank Dr. (Superintendent Jim) Rollins, the school board and the entire administrative leadership team for this opportunity.

“I would also like to thank all of the co-workers, professors, leaders and mentors who have invested in me along the way. I am thankful to each and every one of them.”

Unger earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Abilene Christian. He received his master’s for Educational Leadership from Arkansas Tech as a Lead 21 Walton Scholar.

He spent 10 years as a physical education and health teacher at Hellstern Middle School. During seven of those years he also coached the Springdale Har-Ber High School track and cross country teams. This past year he was an instructional facilitator at the ALE at Lakeside Junior High.

“Mr. Unger has been an outstanding teacher and instructional facilitator in his previous roles in the Springdale school system,” said Rollins. “He is a strong supporter of Springdale students and has prepared himself for the building leadership team. He will be an excellent addition to the outstanding staff at Sonora Middle School.

“Mr. Unger works extremely well with his fellow teachers and his rapport with the Springdale students is second to none. I am excited to see a young school leader with his potential moving forward in our school system and continuing to contribute to the Springdale School District’s pursuit of educational excellence.”
